“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NKJV
In everything give thanks. Even when things aren’t all that great, we should find reasons to be thankful. That can be very difficult at times but it is necessary and beneficial for our own hearts.
The difficult part of the passage for many seems to be, for this is the will of God. We tend to take that in a negative sense, that we are supposed to be thankful for when bad things happen. Unfortunate I’ve heard people who don’t believe in the sovereignty or providence of God do some very odd things with different Scriptures.
What these verses are saying however is simply what they say. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks. It’s those three things that are God’s will for us, that we should have a heart of thankfulness.
As Christians, no matter what we face we should be able to look to God and His faithfulness and be thankful in the midst of anything. Paul is a great example of rejoicing, having joy and being thankful even in the midst of the worst circumstances.
No matter what you may be facing today find something to be thankful for. Rejoice and pray without ceasing.
