Evening Devotion: Finished

“It is finished!” John 19:30 NKJV

It is finished! Three of the most powerful words in all of Scripture. What was finished? The work of redemption that Jesus came to do. Man’s separation from God. The Sacrificial system. The power of death, hell and the grave.

When we think about those three words, there is more power in them than we realize. When we read the book of Hebrews we see how Jesus is the fulfillment of the entire sacrificial system. We see Jesus as our lamb and our high priest.

Not only was redemption accomplished but sin was defeated. We are new creatures in Christ. We have the power to overcome temptation. We have power to witness. And nothing can separate us from the love of God.

Take a few days, even a few weeks and read and read the last week of Jesus’s life. Read it in the different gospels, let the power, magnitude, and sacrifice of Jesus permeate your thinking. Pray and ask the Lord to give you a deeper understanding and appreciation for what Jesus accomplished on the cross.
