Evening Devotion: Success

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8 NKJV

How can we be successful? By walking in the light of the Word. Do you want to prosper? Walk in the Word. Do you want to have good relationships? Walk in the Word. Do you want to overcome every obstacle? Edure hardship. Wait what?

When we think about success we tend to think in very flowery terms. We don’t think about endurance, hardship, or lacking wisdom. We tend to bypass thoughts of trials and tribulations, but those things are part of our success.

The books of Ecclesiastes and Proverbs are the personal growth, motivational, self-help books of the Bible. We just tend not to treat them as such because of all the hard things they say. If we would make a diligent study of those books we would see more success.

Paul had a very successful ministry but most of us wouldn’t say that due to all the hardship he faced. See success from a biblical point of view, understand it from Joshua 1:8. You will never have true success, prosperity and peace on the outside if your life behind closed doors is full of sin. You won’t have true success if your motivation is selfish. James wrote, you ask and do not receive because you ask of your own selfish desires. Success as God defines it, success God’s way is vastly different from that of the world. Look to the Scripture for insight and direction. Apply the Word of God to your life. Don’t live with one foot in the world and one foot in the Word and expect God to bless you. The key to success is simple and plainly seen in Scripture. Success is connected to following the Word of God.
