So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17 NKJV
After we are saved we have a tendency to think we don’t need to hear the gospel, that we need to move on to the deeper things. It doesn’t get any deeper than the gospel.
2 Corinthians 13:5 NKJV “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.”
Notice it says “the faith” and not just faith. Paul tells us to examine ourselves and to test ourselves to see if we are still in the faith. We can only do that if we continually hear the gospel. I share 1 Corinthians 2:2 frequently on the blog because it’s a verse that keeps me in check. Paul said he was determined to know nothing accept Jesus Christ and Him crucified. In another place he said he did not come with enticing words but in power. The gospel is the power of God.
Is there growth in your relationship with God? Absolutely but that growth comes as a result of being rooted and grounded in the message of the gospel. Never tire of hearing, discussing, or proclaiming the gospel.
