Evening Devotion: God

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6 NKJV

What is faith? Believing that God is. The Bible starts from the position that you must accept that God is, “In the beginning God”.

We can discuss apologetics and that is fine and good but ultimately no amount of mental convincing is faith. True faith believes God because of God. If we are convinced by mental arguments alone, we can become unconvinced by a different argument.

Our foundation for truth must be the Scriptures. Scripture simply submits the existence of God and we are expected to accept that. God questions Job and puts all of us in our place. We command nothing and we have ultimate knowledge of nothing concerning His power. God is Holy, just, and good. He is the beginning and the end. Our faith is simply that He is and even that faith comes from Him.

Let us walk humbly before a holy God, let us stand in awe of Him, and let us know Him, first and foremost through His Word.
