“The LORD is my portion; I promise to keep your words.” Psalm 119:57 ESV
“In Him every need is met, whether in life or in death. With God as your portion you are rich indeed, for He will supply your need, comfrot your heart, relieve your grief, guide your steps, walk with you in a dark valley, and then take you home to enjoy Him as your portion forever.”Charles Spurgeon
When the Lord is our portion, and when His Word is our everything, we will have peace. There are certain verses I think about when it comes to Jesus being my everything, these are verses I meditate on:
John 1:1, 14 NKJV “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Job 23:12 NKJV “I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food.”
Philippians 4:19 NKJV “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Joshua 1:8 NKJV “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
When you continually think about God’s promises and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, there is no situation you won’t be able to handle. No matter what hard times you may face, remember the words in the twenty third Psalm; The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He leads me beside still waters, he makes me rest in green pastures. He restores my soul and leads me in righteousness. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I don’t have to fear evil, because His rod and staff comfort me. A table is prepared in the presence of my enemies. And even with all of those great things, I am still promised that goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life.
Your circumstances don’t have to determine your joy, Scripture says the joy of the Lord is our strength and His strength is made perfect in our weaknesses. Hold on to His Word and it will get you through any situation. The Apostle Paul wrote Philippians while he was in prison, yet, he continually talked about joy. Your problems can’t stop God’s power or negate His promises. As long as you hold on to God’s promises and keep your eyes on Jesus, you can make it through any situation. It won’t always be easy, and you may get bruised in some battles, but we have a promise in Romans chapter eight. “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
That is our promise, that is our hope. Let the Word encourage and strengthen you today. Let it be your weapon against temptation, light on your path, and comfort to your soul.
