The Cradle, the Cross, and the Consummation

Isaiah 9:6-7 ESV “For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.”

It’s Christmas – A time of family, giving, feasting, and ALL THE LIGHTS! Lights have always been my favorite part of Christmas; the more lights, the better. Jesus is the light of the world, and the light shines in the darkness (John 1:4-5). One of my favorite Christmas passages is Isaiah 9:6-7 because it talks about the first and second coming of Jesus.

When we think about Christmas, we think about the birth of Jesus. At Easter or Passover, we think of His death and resurrection, and we may or may not think about His return on occasion. This Christmas, let’s put all three together. Let’s think about the cradle, the cross, and the consummation. Read a chapter of Luke each day and ponder on the events of the chapter. Allow the person and work of Jesus to saturate your thinking this month and every day next year.
