Devotion: Courage

“Have I not commanded you? Chazak! Be strong! Do not be terrified or dismayed, for Adonai your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9 TLV

Just as Joshua was commanded to be strong and courageous, Timothy was instructed not to let anyone look down on him because of his young age.

1 Timothy 4:12-13 TLV “ Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but become an example of the faithful—in speech, in conduct, in love, in faithfulness, and in purity. 13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to encouragement, and to teaching.”

Paul also said in 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity but of power and love and self-discipline.”

Scripture is clear, we must be courageous. Jude writes that we are to contend for the faith once delivered to us. Jeremiah was told not to look at the faces of the people but to prophecy the Word of the Lord.

These are days when courage is required. We must not bow down to a godless culture; we must not psychologize the Scripture nor exchange the Biblical gospel for a social one.

The Word of God is truth, and it is unchanging. Stand for truth. Boldly share the gospel, and stand against sin with your feet firmly planted. The Word of God is not shifting sand, but it abides forever.

Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. As Christians, we are to submit to His Lordship. We are to follow His commands. We are to declare what He has said.
