A Final Word on Apostasy (Jude 1:17-19)

In the last four weeks, we have covered various aspects of recognizing false teachers and false teaching. Even though Jude has spent his entire letter on this topic, he also reminds his readers of what the apostles said on the subject. Jude 1:17-19 TLV “But you, loved ones, ought to remember the words previously proclaimed by the emissaries of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah— 18 how they kept telling you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following after their own ungodly desires.” 19 These are the ones who cause divisions—worldly-minded, not having the Ruach

We see the book of Jude before our eyes. How many “Christians” do you see today calling into question the reliability, authority, and sufficiency of Scripture? How many “Christian” leaders are reinterpreting the Bible for our day, understanding it in our context because its concepts are from another time? These are the scoffers Jude was talking about; they twist the Scriptures to fit their ungodly desires. They are currently dividing the Church with Critical Race Theory, pitting blacks against whites when we are one in Christ.

They follow natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. The Spirit does not lead them; they do not pray over decisions; they decide things the same way the world would. Whatever your eschatology is, one thing is clear, we are living in a very godless time, and believers must be prepared to handle the scoffers and stand firm in the faith. We cannot allow the divisive tactics of wolves in sheep’s clothing to scatter us. We must hold fast to the truth of the Word of God and study to show ourselves approved. Next week we will finish the Jude Series and discuss how we as believers persevere through apostasy.
