Happy Dependence Day! That’s right, we may have declared our independence from Great Britain, but we are still very much dependent upon God.
Yesterday as I watched the service from Glory of Zion, they sang the chorus of the Battle Hymn of the Republic, and the words exploded in my spirit. This nation was founded to worship God. Secular and even some religious historians may try and change our history, but the truth remains.
Think about the words of this hymn. Think about the Great Commission.
Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
America has sent missionaries worldwide, and America itself is a mission field. We were founded in the midst of a great awakening, but our recent history has only known revivals. So, this Independence Day, I pray that we declare our dependence upon God again!
Oh God, send another awakening to this nation. Raise up modern-day Whitfields, Edwards, and Wesley’s! Bring repentance and revival to your church and a reformation in this nation.
