NOTES

“Here is the history of Noach. In his generation, Noach was a man righteous and wholehearted; Noach walked with God” – Gen. 6:9 CJB.

“But Noach found grace in the sight of Adonai.” – Gen. 6:8 CJB.

In his generation, Noah was righteous and blameless.

  • Righteous and wholehearted.
  • In his generation – God judges us based on when we live.
  • Today, we tend to judge past actions on present knowledge; this isn’t so with God.
  • God judges based on a person’s knowledge – how they obey and what they reject.

Gen. 6:9-13

  • All living beings were corrupted, and the earth was filled with violence.
  • Violence: (Heb. #2555 -Strong’s) ḥāmās – wrong, cruelty, injustice, oppressor.
    • Issac of promise and Ishmael of replacement.
    • Ishmael: his hand will be against everyone (Gen. 16:11-12).
    • The curse of Ishmael gives way to the Amalekites, who hound the Hebrews after the Exodus.
    • Haman, a descendant of Amalek, tries to wipe out the Jewish people but is stopped by Queen Esther.
    • Amalek led to the Philistines (Palestine is the Roman replacement of the nation of Israel), and the Philistines gave way to the Hamas of our day.

(Gen. 6:14-8:22): God used Noah to build a boat that took him 120 years. This gave Noah’s generation 120 years to repent and for God to extend forgiveness instead of judgment. – 1 Pt. 3:18-22.

The Character of God

  • God not only saved Noah and his family but directed Noah to bring seven of every clean animal and two of every unclean animal.
  • The flood is not a story of destruction alone but one of cleansing and a new beginning.
  • See the similarity of God’s command to man in Gen. 1:26-30 and Gen. 9:1-7.

The Struggle of Man

  • It wasn’t until Seth had Enosh that men began to call on God (Gen.4:26).
  • Gen. 8:20, Noah built an altar.
  • Gen. 9:13, God’s rainbow and man’s perversion of promise.
  • Ge. 11 – The Tower of Babel
    • v.1-4, they wanted to make a name for themselves.
    • They wanted to be with God in a way He had not authorized.
    • God knows our hearts, but sometimes our hearts are wrong.
    • 2 Peter chapter 2.

This week’s portion in relation to the Hebrew decade:

  • 2020/5780: PEY: Speech and Freedom.
  • 2020: Our mouths were covered and freedoms limited.
  • 2020: Passover in homes and not large gatherings.
  • 2022: A fight over whether hospitals could keep leaven-free.
  • This is a decade of warfare over whether we will cross over each year or not.
  • This year, 5784, the year of the door – our words and obedience must come together to go through the doors God has for us.
  • Will we be like the culture and ignore warnings, or will we have a repentant and obedient heart?
  • It’s time to board the ark, go through the storm, and into a new beginning!
