Forgiveness, Restoration, and Blessing

Audio Teaching

NOTES

The Power of Forgiveness

Last week’s portion showed us that Joseph was a man who could walk in forgiveness. The forgiveness that he demonstrated led to restoration and blessing.

  • Yeshua’s teaching and life of forgiveness
    • We must forgive others to be forgiven (Mt. 6:14-15).
    • We must walk in love and forgiveness (Mt. 18:21-35).
    • Yeshua forgave those who had Him crucified (Lk. 23:34).

Gen. 45:1-28 CJB

  • “Joseph, now convinced that his brothers had truly repented of their former animosity toward him, understood that the time had come to disclose his identity to them. But Joseph could not bear to have his brothers shamed in the presence of all the people standing around him. So he exclaimed, “Have everyone leave my presence!” Thus, no man was left standing near Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers.” (Gen. 45:1 Kehot Chumash).
  • v.5-8: Joseph states three times that God intended all the events for good.
  • v.24: Don’t quarrel on the way – a chance for the brothers to show maturity.

The Power of Restoration and Blessing

Gen. 46:28-34

Gen. 47:1-6

“Through Jacob and his seed, all the families of the earth have been blessed. The children of Israel would have remained a source of blessing for the Egyptians if a later Pharoh had not turned his hand against them.” – Unrolling the Scroll, Book 1, pg. 194, First Fruits of Zion

The Haftarah Portion: Ezek. 37:15-28

  • The restoration of Israel.
  • Believers in Yeshua as part of Israel
    • Jn. 10:1-16
    • Isa. 55:6-56:8
    • Just as the Egyptians could have stayed connected with Israel and walked in blessing, believers in Yeshua will not see spiritual fullness until we recognize Yeshua in His fullness as the Torah of truth.
