Giving Yourself to the Lord

Audio teaching

Notes

Rom. 12:1-2

Ex. 25:1-8

Ex 25:2 KJV “…of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart…”

  • The main part of the portion is about the construction of the Tabernacle and its furniture, but it begins with an offering.
  • God wanted to dwell with His people.
  • Giving is the Hebrew word Terumah, which means to uplift.
  • When we give, we elevate our money, time, and talents to a godly purpose.
  • “Let them set apart from their possessions a voluntary gift in My honor.” – Rashi
  • Gold, silver, and brass – blue, purple, and scarlet
    • Everyone was able to participate.
    • Big gifts and small gifts.
  • Why were they giving? To create a dwelling place for God.

The Ark of the Covenant

Ex. 25:22 – God dwelt there, and God spoke from there.

Jer. 3:16

  • The Ark is not gone; it is just not visited.
  • For your entire assembly will be holy, and I will dwell therein as though it were an Ark. – it won’t be done anymore – it won’t be taken into battle.” – Rashi
  • Zech. 14:16-21

The other furnishings

The bread of the presence – the freshness of the Word of God.

The Monorah – the light of the Word of God

The seven spirits of God (Isa. 11:2)

The Altar – offerings (sin, peace, thanks, etc.)

The Tabernacle and The Temple

  • The Tabernacle was always temporary and the pattern of the permanent Temple.
  • The furnishings of the Tabernacle would be placed in the Temple.
  • There is no Temple at the moment, but there will be a third Temple during the millennium.
  • Isa. 66:20-24

Shabbat and Us

Shabbat is a place in time that reminds us of the Temple:

  • The table represents the Altar.
  • Challah is the bread of the presence.
  • The Shabbat lights are our menorah.

We are temples

  • 1 Cor. 6:12-20
