Psalm 119:105 KJV “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

Proverbs 6:23-24 KJV “For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: 24 to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.”

The oil of the Menorah, the snare of nations, and the power of remembrance.

Ex. 27:20-21

• Pure olive oil
• Psa. 24
  • We can’t approach the Lord unless we are pure (sanctified).
  • No vanity, no deceit, a generation that seeks Him.
  • Matt. 5:8 KJV “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” (cr. Heb. 12:14-16)
  • Matt. 5:13-16 (our light is our love and good works)
• The enemy tries to extinguish our light through temptation, causing us to give up on God.

The Churches of Revelation

Rev. 2:4-5

• There is always an action on our part in repentance – it is not just the words, “I repent.”

Rev. 2:20-23

• Allowing false prophecy.
• No repentance.
• The Lord judges the churches according to their works.

Rev. 3:15-20

• No life for God – no holiness.
• They did not realize they were spiritually lacking.

• These churches are an example to us of what happens when we don’t guard our light; weight and sin come in (Heb. 12:1), we step out of light and back into darkness, and the Lord Himself comes and removes our light (cr. Matt. 6:22-23).

How do we Guard Our Light?

Ex. 34:12-16

• Take heed to thyself.
• Aligning with the world is a snare (we can do it through politics, by trying to get into Hollywood, or worse, by turning our churches into entertainment venues and sermons into motivational rallies.)
• Deut. 12:29-32

When we don’t take heed, we create Golden Calfs

Ex. 32:1-2

• Do you think it was Israel or those from the nations who came up with the idea for an idol?
• 2 Cor. 6:14-7:1
• Js. 4:4-10

“Let us submit ourselves to the Word of God, resist the devil, and endeavor to continually present ourselves as living sacrifices. May we sanctify ourselves and be as the wise virgins, who have oil ready at the coming of the Lord.”
