Notes
1 Pt. 2:1-12 LSB
1 Pt. 2:1-3
- Laying aside – put away.
- Rom. 13:14 “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.”
- Eph. 4:17-27
- 2 Cor. 10:3-5 AMPC “For though we walk (live) in the flesh, we are not carrying on our warfare according to the flesh and using mere human weapons. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds, 5 [Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One),”
- “long for the pure milk of the word,”
- 1 Pt. 2:1-5 (Wuest Expanded New Testament) “Wherefore, putting away once and for all, all wickedness, all craftiness, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all slanderings as newborn infants, intensely yearn for the unadulturated spiritual milk in order that you may be nourished and make progress in your salvation, in view of the fact that you have tasted that the Lord is excellent; toward whom we are constantly drawing near, Himself in character a Living Stone, indeed by men repudiated after they hadtested Him for the purpose of approving Him, in which investigation they found Him to be that which did not meet their specifications, but in the sight of God a Chosen-Out One and held in honor. You yourselves also as living stones are being built up a spiritual house, to be a priesthood that is holy, bringing up to God’s altars spiritual sacrifices which are received by God through the mediatorship of Jesus Christ.”
- Are we constantly drawing near to God?
- What keeps you from drawing near?
- Are you being built up into a spiritual house or a house ruled by fleshly desires?
- If we allow ourselves to consume too much of a streaming series at a given time, it can desensitize us to fleshly things. If we give ourselves to mindless scrolling, we are starving ourselves of the Word.
- Are you offering spiritual sacrifices?
- Rom. 12:1-2 AMPC ” I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].”
v. 4 – “and coming to Him.” – communion and fellowship.
vv. 5-8
- Just as Jesus is a stone of stumbling, so too, in these last days, does Jerusalem become a heavy stone.
Zech. 12:1-4 “The oracle of the word of Yahweh concerning Israel. Thus declares Yahweh who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him, 2 “Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples all around. Now the one in siege against Jerusalem will also be against Judah. 3 But it will be in that day, that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who heave it up will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it. 4 In that day,” declares Yahweh, “I will strike every horse with bewilderment and his rider with madness. But I will open my eyes to watch over the house of Judah, while I strike every horse of the peoples with blindness.”
- Have you noticed how the enemy is turning everything against Israel right now?
- Have you felt lackadaisical in prayer or bible reading?
- The enemy wants Christians to neglect their relationship with God, their love for each other, and a Biblical stand with the Jewish people and the nation of Israel.
- Spiritual warfare is real, more real than any of us imagine. Are you aware? Are you taking your stand?
Eph. 6:10-13 (Wuest Expanded New Testament) “Finally, be constantly strengthened in the Lord and in the active efficacy of the might that is inherent in Him. Clothe yourselves with the full armor of God to the end that you will be able to hold your ground against the stratagies of the devil, because our wrestling is not against blood and flesh, but against the principalities, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against spiritual forces of perniciousness in the heavenly places. On this account, take to yourself, at once and once for all, the complete armor of God in order that you may be able to resist in the day, the pernicious day, and having achieved all things, to stand. Stand therefore.”
vv. 9-12
- We are new creations.
- That is the battle – the enemy does not want us living in the reality of the new creation.
- We must abstain from fleshly lusts because they war against the soul.
- The battle is real – our souls are at stake!
1 Pt. 1:3-9 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to obtain an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and unfading, having been kept in heaven for you, 5 who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 And though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.”
