The Armor of God (Part 1)

Audio Teaching Part 1

The notes were updated to include other Scriptures and points not in the original notes. I prepare notes, but always do my best to yield to the flow of the Holy Spirit. This is the first time I have updated the notes to match the audio’s flow.

Notes

Eph. 6:10 KJV “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”

Gal. 5:1 KJV “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”

Hebrews 12:1-2 KJV “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Weight and sin. These are two different things. A weight drags you down (1 Cor. 6:12; 10:23).

What we feed on is what produces.

Matthew 12:34b KJV “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”

Jn. 8:36 KJV “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

“The greatest threat to revival is innocent amusements.” – Charles Finney

Romans 6-7. We will always deal with the flesh. The question is, will we allow our spirit man to dominate our flesh man?

James 4:7 KJV  “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

2 Tim. 2:1-7 AMPC “So you, my son, be strong (strengthened inwardly) in the grace (spiritual blessing) that is [to be found only] in Christ Jesus. 2 And the [instructions] which you have heard from me along with many witnesses, transmit and entrust [as a deposit] to reliable and faithful men who will be competent and qualified to teach others also. 3 Take [with me] your share of the hardships and suffering [which you are called to endure] as a good (first-class) soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier when in service gets entangled in the enterprises of [civilian] life; his aim is to satisfy and please the one who enlisted him. 5 And if anyone enters competitive games, he is not crowned unless he competes lawfully (fairly, according to the rules laid down). 6 [It is] the hard-working farmer [who labors to produce] who must be the first partaker of the fruits.7 Think over these things I am saying [understand them and grasp their application], for the Lord will grant you full insight and understanding in everything.”

Matthew 6:33 AMPC “ But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.”

What goes on in your home is more of your seeking than your time at church.

Jos. 1:8-9 AMPC “This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success. 9 Have not I commanded you? Be strong, vigorous, and very courageous. Be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Instructions NLT).

Meditate – fill your mind, speak the Word.

Ephesians 5:26 KJV “that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,”

Eph. 6:11 KJV “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

Wiles – Deception

Depression is a deception because the joy of the Lord is your strength (Neh. 8:10)

Hebrews 1:9 (paraphrase) “Jesus had more joy than his companions.”

John 15:11 KJV “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.”

Ex. 15:26 KJV “If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.”

Psa. 107:20 KJV “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”

Rom. 10:17 KJV “ So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Heb. 11:6 KJV “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Heb. 11:1 AMPC “Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].”

Gen. 15:6 KJV “ And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.” [Rom. 4:3; Gal. 3:6] {After he believed God, he was circumcised and offered Isaac. Obedience follows faith. Js. 2:18.}

Psa. 28:7 KJV “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped:
therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.”

To overcome the deception of the enemy in any area, joy and praise are spiritual weapons.

2 Tim. 1:7 KJV “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

The enemy will always take a truth and twist it.

1 Cor. 10:12 KJV “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.”

1 Tim. 4:16a NIV “Watch your life and doctrine…”

If you allow joy and praise to take root in you, it will do the work against the deception of the enemy.

Deception is more than just a lie concerning a thing – the devil deceives us by causing us to doubt the promises in God’s Word. The devil will put heaviness on you to make you think you are depressed or you’re sick, or fill in the blank, and you’re not. The enemy is giving you a feeling so that you will talk yourself into or think yourself into an element. In Mark 5, the woman said to herself, she kept saying to herself. If we are to be joyful, the devil will put heaviness on us. Because we are healed by the stripes of Jesus, the enemy will put sickness on us; he will try to get us to confess sickness instead of health. Marriage is ordained of the Lord, so the enemy wants to bring strife between a husband and wife.

We need to listen to the inward witness. Get in the habit of trusting God and developing our spiritual hearing through The Word. Overcome deception and temptation by what The Word says. (Mat. 4).

Js. 1:14-15 KJV “but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”

2 Cor. 10:3-5 KJV “or though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

Eph. 6:12 KJV “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

How do you stand? You stand on The Word. You want to be the house built on the rock, not the one built on the sand.

Don’t wait until you get into a circumstance to meditate on the Scriptures.

Prov. 18:21 NLT “The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.”

Rom. 4:17b KJV “calleth those things which be not as though they were.”

By speaking positively, our mental attitude changes.

Rom 12:2 AMPC “Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].”

Heb. 12:2 AMPC “Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Truth and Righteousness is Jesus Himself! He is the truth, He is the gospel of peace, and the shield of faith. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. And Jesus is the one who sent the Spirit.

John 2:1-11

Water: Holy Spirit (Jn. 7:38)

The Word (Eph. 5:26; Prov. 30:5-6; Psa. 12:6; Jn. 17:7)

Eph. 5:18 (Wuest) “Be constantly controlled by the Spirit.”

(Weymouth) “Drink deeply of God’s Spirit.”

(Conybeare) “be filled with the indwelling of the Spirit.”

(Greek) “Be being filled.”

(AMPC) “but ever be filled and stimulated with the Holy Spirit.”

We’re either yielding to the Holy Spirit or a human spirit being driven by the flesh. It’s our choice.

Acts 2, filled; Acts 4, refilled. There is a continual filling of the Spirit. Operating under the direction of the Spirit.

Heb. 4:12 KJV “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

The Word of God separates sin out of us so that sanctification can be real in us.

Are we submitting ourselves to the armour of God?
