Notes
Gen. 6:9-12 (CJB)
Righteous (H#6662): To be clean, moral.
Wholehearted (H#8549): Entire, undefiled. The word wholehearted appears 28 times in the Complete Jewish Bible.
Walked with God (H#1980): Continually, be conversant, follow, grow.
The rabbis ask: Would Noach have been considered righteous if he had lived in Avraham’s day? They conclude that every man is judged according to his generation, and that if Noach had lived with Avraham, he would have lived a more righteous life.
Corrupt (H#7843): To cause decay, ruin, to cast off, perish.
Violence (Heb. Hamas – #2555): Unjust gain (theft), cruel, damage, oppress, false (lie). Hamas is a form of violent taking – Sanhedrin 108a
Mat. 24:29-39 (CJB)
They didn’t know what was happening until the flood came and swept them away. When the flood sweeps you away, it’s too late.
Gen. 8:20-22 (CJB)
Gen. 11:1-9 (CJB)
Holiness is the guard against sin.
Eve was tempted by her desires through her eyes.
Cain allowed himself to be overtaken by anger.
The generation of the flood gave themselves completely over to all kinds of wickedness.
The generation after the flood assumed God would not do that again for another 1,000 years, so they said they would make war against God and make a name for themselves.
Noach was righteous in his generation because he refused to walk in their sins.
Noach was righteous because he walked with God.
