Devotion: Trust

“It is better to take refuge in Adonai than to trust in princes.”
Psalm 118:9 TLV

“Do not put your trust in princes— in man, in whom there is no salvation.”
Psalm 146:3 TLV

How many times do we find ourselves putting our trust in a politician’s promises, a business bargin, or even a pastor’s proclamation, only to be let down?

It is always better to trust in the Lord by putting our confidence in His Word rather than the words of others. The Bereans were even commended for checking what the Apostle Paul said against the Scripture.

When we place our hope for the nation in a single politician or caucus group, we will be disappointed. If we blindly follow a minister, we could be led astray. If we trust a corporation implicitly, at some level, we are being taken advantage of, but with God, this is not so. He is unchanging, and His Word is sure. No matter the deceit around us or even the deceit of our own hearts, one thing remains steadfast, and that is the Word of God.

Take your eyes off others and put them on the Word. Paul said follow me as I follow Christ. The moment someone starts walking, speaking, or believing contrary to Scripture is the moment we should stop following them, no matter how good their track record may be.

Put your trust in God and His Word. He will never change, and His promises are sure.
