“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born, I set you apart— I appointed you prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5 TLV

It’s amazing to think about these words to the Prophet Jeremiah. Before God formed Jeremiah in the womb, He had already set his course.

Proverbs 16:9 tells us that a man can plan his ways, but the Lord directs his steps. Scripture also says the Lord determines the boundaries of our habitation. God is involved in the lives of His creation. He raises up kings and takes kings down. Joseph told his brothers that what they meant for evil, God worked for good.

The sovereignty of God should be a comforting thing to the believer. Even before our formation, God was setting our paths. We learn in the book of Job, that our enemy has limits placed on him by God. Scripture tells us that God will not allow us to be tempted above that which we are able to handle. God wants us to live victorious lives. Paul wrote that we are always led in triumph by Christ Jesus.

From before our first day and until our last breath, God is in control. That is our comfort in affliction and our joy in the good times. Because of that, as the Psalmist said, I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
